Places to explore in Ujung Genteng are not all about beaches. One of the must visit is a beautiful waterfall called Curug Cikaso [curug is a Sundanese word for a waterfall].
Curug Cikaso and Ujung-Genteng are parts of Ciletuh Geopark.
UNESCO acknowledged Ciletuh as a global geopark since 2018. It covers an area of 1,260 square kilometers, from Palabuhanratu to Ujung Genteng. It has a spectacular landscape of beaches, waterfalls, geysers, rivers, mountains, wild reserves, and the Green Turtle Conservatory.
Considering the huge area and so many things to see, it is impossible to explore them all in one day.
Ticket : Rp. 3,000
Boat : Rp. 60,000
Parking : Rp. 11,000
The starting point to Curug Cikaso is the small town of Surade, which is 30 kilometers [about one hour drive] from Ujung Genteng beach. Once in Surade, you should look for the right turn to Tegalbuleud. After seven kilometers you will see a small sign to Curug Cikaso. Turn right there into a narrow road leading to the parking lot.
The GPS coordinates are 7°21'36.7"S 106°37'04.2"E [-7.360202, 106.617833].
Although Curug Cikaso is quite big and loud, you will not hear or see a thing from the parking lot. The waterfall itself is still a couple kilometers ahead.
There are two options to reach Cikaso waterfall:
First option and the preferable one is to take a short boat ride. The ride takes less than 5 minutes. The boat can take up to twelve persons and the ticket valid for return trip.
The second option is to walk from the ticket booth through paddy fields to the waterfall. It is definitely cheaper than renting a boat, and it is not a difficult or far away walk anyway. But it is less fun than sailing in a boat!
If you choose to rent a boat, you will be surprised to see that the trip looks very much like a shorter version of Green Canyon in Pangandaran beach. The similarity starts from the brown muddy river at the starting point then the color of the river changes to green in the middle of the trip, when the boat turns right to the smaller river. Even the boat looks similar.
Getting off the boat, you still have to walk for a couple hundred meters along the riverbank to reach Curug Cikaso. The view from this riverbank is breathtaking, can you imagine the view of the waterfall?
Curug Cikaso comprises three waterfalls, all fall into one pool. Each waterfall is approximately seven meters in height, which makes it the second highest waterfall in Java. The highest is Madakaripura waterfall near Bromo crater complex in East Java.
These waterfalls are beautiful. The color of the water in the pool and the river is bottle green, too bad it can't maintain its color when it reaches the bigger river.
Visitors are allowed to swim in the waterfall as well as in the river. The water is clean and the air is cool, a perfect place to relax and enjoy your day. However, please be cautious, there is not any lifeguard on the watch here.
